They were announced on July 7th, 2007 (07.07.07) at the Official Ceremony presented in Lisbon, Portugal - the huge event was hosted by celebrities Hilary Swank, Bipasha Basu and Ben Kingsley.

Why only 7?

Interestingly enough, the original list of Ancient Wonders drawn up more than 2,000 years ago, contained 7 - and even more interesting, 7 has repeatedly been shown to be the number of things that the average person can remember ... hmmm!
